The Right Carpet for the Right Spaces

Choosing the right carpet starts with the application, design requirements, traffic level, installation method, maintenance requirements, and project budget. Design Ambience supplies three main carpet solutions — Handtufted Carpet, Broadloom Carpet, and Carpet Tiles — with different options available within each category.

Handtufted Carpet provides extensive flexibility for custom patterns, textures, pile heights, shapes, colors, and materials. It can be produced as wall-to-wall carpet or area rugs and is commonly used in hotel guestrooms, suites, lobbies, restaurants, corridors, and other feature areas.

Broadloom Carpet is supplied as a continuous carpet for wall-to-wall installation. Design Ambience offers Axminster, Machine Tufted, Printed Nylon, and Wilton carpets, with the appropriate construction selected according to the project’s application, design, traffic, and performance requirements.

Carpet Tiles are modular carpet pieces installed individually rather than as one continuous carpet. They are widely used in offices and other commercial spaces where modular installation, maintenance, replacement, and flexible floor layouts are important.

Design Ambience can help compare the available carpet solutions and recommend an appropriate option based on the project’s requirements.

The Cost-Effective Solutions

Modular Carpet Tiles

Carpet Tiles are modular commercial flooring installed and replaced individually rather than as one continuous carpet. This makes them practical for offices and other commercial spaces where maintenance, future replacement, installation, and changes to the workspace need to be considered.

Design Ambience offers three Carpet Tile solutions:

  • Commercial Carpet Tiles — practical options for offices and other commercial interiors, available in different fibers, constructions, colors, patterns, and backing options.
  • Colorpoint Carpet Tiles — design-focused carpet tiles for projects that require more visual variety and greater design consideration.
  • Custom Carpet Tiles — customizable carpet tiles developed for projects that require a specific design direction rather than a standard collection.

Other advantages of Carpet Tiles include:

  • Individual tiles can be removed and replaced when necessary
  • Different colors, patterns, and textures can be combined within the same floor
  • Installation layouts can create different visual effects using the same collection
  • Suitable for offices, BPO spaces, co-working areas, meeting rooms, boardrooms, schools, and other commercial interiors
  • Selected collections may be available from local stock or through Quick Ship, subject to availability

Broadloom Machine Tufted Carpets

Machine Tufted Carpet is a Broadloom Carpet produced as a continuous wall-to-wall surface rather than individual tiles. It is a practical option for hospitality and commercial spaces requiring a continuous carpet installation with a range of existing designs, colors, patterns, and textures.

Machine Tufted Carpet can be considered for:

  • Hotel guestrooms
  • Hotel corridors
  • Offices
  • Restaurants
  • Function rooms
  • Meeting spaces
  • Other commercial interiors

The appropriate product is selected according to the project’s application, traffic, design requirements, installation conditions, and budget.

The Mid-level Carpet Solutions

Axminster Carpets

Axminster is a woven Broadloom Carpet commonly specified for hospitality and commercial interiors. Its woven construction allows detailed patterns and coordinated designs to be developed across large wall-to-wall installations.

Axminster Carpet is commonly used in hotel guestrooms, corridors, lobbies, restaurants, function rooms, ballrooms, and other hospitality areas where the carpet needs to support both the interior design and regular foot traffic.

  • Woven Broadloom construction
  • Suitable for detailed and repeating carpet patterns
  • Custom patterns and colors can be developed for project requirements
  • Suitable for large wall-to-wall carpet installations
  • Available in an 80% New Zealand wool, 20% nylon construction, backed by a design and integrity warranty of up to 10 years.

Printed Nylon Carpets

Printed Nylon Carpet is a tufted Broadloom Carpet made with 100% nylon face fiber. It is produced with a white face first, and the design is applied afterward using a jet-dye printing process.

It can reproduce detailed artwork, gradients, and multiple colors, which makes it a practical option for projects that want a customized Broadloom design at a more accessible price than Axminster for many projects.

  • Tufted Broadloom construction with 100% nylon face fiber
  • Up to 12 colors in a single design, depending on the artwork
  • Reproduces detailed artwork and gradients
  • Built for heavy contract applications
  • Commonly used in hotel guestrooms, corridors, lobbies, ballrooms, restaurants, cinemas, auditoriums, and event halls

The Best of the Best Solution

Handtufted Carpets

Handtufted Carpet is made by inserting yarn into a backing using a handtufting process. This allows a high degree of flexibility in carpet pattern, texture, pile height, shape, color, and material selection.

Handtufted Carpet can be produced as wall-to-wall carpet or area rugs and is commonly selected for hospitality and commercial spaces where the carpet design is an important part of the interior scheme.

  • Custom patterns, colors, textures, and pile heights
  • Wide range of design and material possibilities
  • Can be produced as wall-to-wall carpet or area rugs
  • Can accommodate custom shapes and detailed design elements
  • Suitable for hotel guestrooms, suites, lobbies, restaurants, corridors, and other feature areas
  • Carpet artwork can be developed from an interior concept, drawing, floor plan, mood board, or other design reference

Handtufted, Axminster, Printed Nylon, and Carpet Tiles Compared

Here is how the four carpet types we promote compare. We also carry Machine Tufted and Wilton carpet; ask us if a project calls for them.

How to Choose Between Handtufted, Axminster, Printed Nylon, and Carpet Tiles

The right carpet for a project usually comes down to four things: which area it’s going into, how much foot traffic it gets, how much the design needs to carry the space, and what the budget allows.

  • High-traffic corridors and office floors — Carpet Tiles hold up well under daily wear and let you replace a single worn tile instead of the whole floor.
  • Hotel guestrooms, lobbies, and ballrooms — Axminster is the standard choice when a space needs a detailed, repeating pattern across a large wall-to-wall area.
  • Spaces with detailed graphics or a tighter budget — Printed Nylon reproduces detailed artwork and gradients in up to 12 colors at a more accessible price than Axminster.
  • Suites, feature areas, and focal spaces — Handtufted carpet is worth the extra lead time when the design calls for a custom shape, texture, or one-of-a-kind pattern.

On budget, Carpet Tiles are the most cost-effective option, Printed Nylon generally costs less than Axminster, and Handtufted carries the highest investment.

What affects custom carpet lead time and cost

Custom carpet pricing depends on the specific project, so there’s no fixed rate we can quote without knowing the details. A few factors move the number:

  • Pattern complexity — a simple two-color design produces and ships faster than a multi-color pattern with fine detail.
  • Material — wool blends cost more than nylon but hold color and shape longer under heavy use.
  • Order size — larger wall-to-wall orders bring the per-square-meter cost down.
  • Sampling rounds — each round of strike-off samples adds time to the schedule.
  • Production and shipping — where the carpet is made and shipped affects the final timeline.

Once the design, colors, and strike-off are approved, custom carpet production takes about 30 days on average, and sampling takes about 2 weeks to produce and arrive. Intricate designs and specialty materials can take longer. If your schedule doesn’t allow for custom production, ask us about available stock carpet. We can give a project-specific estimate once we know the application, size, and design direction.

How the custom carpet process works

Custom carpet moves through five stages from concept to finished floor:

  1. Design intent — you share the look you’re going for: a mood board, floor plan, or reference image is enough to start.
  2. Artwork development — our design team turns that intent into carpet-ready artwork.
  3. Strike-off and sample approval — a physical sample lets you check color, texture, and pattern first.
  4. Production — the carpet is manufactured to the approved specifications.
  5. Installation — our team installs on site, coordinated around your project timeline.
